Face to Face Teaching in the College Course

Face to Face Teaching in the College Course

 - but with a difference.

Four tutorials per module by a graduate of the College to assist the student satisfactorily complete the  particular Module.

These are Provisional Proposals – subject to change without notice.

  • The Distance Education course costs $660 per Module. If you pay an extra $130 per module i.e $790, you will have face-to face assistance.
(Please note that Distance Education students can always tap into human assistance at no extra cost

    - by consulting the Dean of Studies (03 9499 4977 - messmate@netspace.net.au),

    - by asking questions of the person on duty at the College Office (03 9419 0460),

    - the student liaison officer Diane Storey (0417 106 275),

    - by joining the email forum (Lynnette Olsen 03-9398 0052 - lynnette@lynnetteolsen.com)

    - by interaction with fellow students at Association get-togethers where available (celebrancy.com > College Association or John Dean 03 9305 6282), and

    - by attending Ongoining Professional Development (OPD) sessions for half price – celebrancy.com > Professional Development.)

  • For $130 per module, the student will receive four 45 minute tutorials from a staff member or graduate of the College. This will go to the tutor whose purpose will be to encourage and guide the student through the requirements of the Module.

  • This tutor (we now have graduates in almost every state of Australia and in New Zealand) will give the student assistance and guidance. If a tutor has two students the tutorial will go for an hour. If any student, not so enrolled, wishes to join any tutorials, they can approach the tutor (we will advertise in email and on our website), pay, say, $40 direct to the tutor, who should extend the time. As well as the Module, which is the primary focus, the tutor should give some time to dealing with general questions.

  • The exact time frame of 45 minutes to an hour or more with more students will be evaluated as we move into this plan.

  • Some tutors may work to a fixed schedule. (We will advertise this)

  • For Modules two and three, the eight tutorials must be normally within a ten weeks period. There are RTO requirements and reasons for this.

  • To maintain standards and the integrity of the College, the student must satisfactorily complete all the assignments and the field work to the Satisfaction of the Dean of Studies and send it to him as all DE students do.

  •  Interested enquirers not yet signed up for the College can attend, with the permission of the tutor for say $40. (Pay at the door.)

  • Approved Tutors / presenters will receive a cheque but then need to do all their own organization direct with their assigned student. They may use the Celebrants Centre in Melbourne after hours by arrangement.

  •  Tutors will not be under any obligation to become “helpful celebrants” or “mentors” to these students, or under any obligation to invite them to observe their ceremonies. These possibilities will have to be monitored so tutors are comfortable setting their own limits.

IMPORTANT NOTE

At the College we have serious misgivings about many current celebrant face-to-face courses. The problem is this. When someone signs up for such a course and pays good money, they expect to pass. Even the universities struggle with this expectation.

With Distance Education, you pass someone when they have done the work and have acquired the necessary knowledge, attitudes and skills. The dictum of the qualified educator is “no impression without expression” and that means expression that comes up to a certain standard. Actually doing the work is necessary to prepare a student for the detailed demands of the professional celebrant, who must do the work with the client.

Yet the College has seen a great number of our potential students choose face-to-face  because they can go somewhere, sit there long enough (sometimes only for 2 days!!), and get the ticket they need.

The College objects to “mickey mouse” courses, which have no understanding of celebrancy, have no idea of what they do not know, and teach almost nothing of value. Any small good thing they teach, they usually have blatantly stolen from someone else.

If people have to travel a distance to consult with a tutor, 2 or 3 trips might be more appealing than 4. Some tutorials may have to be done by phone. Such details can be resolved by direct discussion with the tutor.

Attending a ceremony is not considered a tutoring session.
